Zanzibar Dhow Experience

A sailing trip with a traditional Zanzibar Dhow is definitely an experience not to be missed on any visit to Zanzibar. The feeling of gliding under sail through the turquoise water of the Indian Ocean is something you will never forget. Sailing in a traditional dhow will set you back in time to the days of the trade routes, when thousands of these magnificent dhows crossed the oceans with merchandise. Here, time stay still. Even today these dhows continue to sail these waters back and forward.
During our trips you will see many of these dhows and sometimes we can be surrounded with hundreds of small dhows setting out for fishing. These traditional dhows are still being built here on Zanzibar.
Our Dhow is a truly authentic dream. It is 36 feet (11m) long that insure good space, and it is outfitted with the traditionally sail as well as 2 new 40Hp mercury engines, in case the wind is teasing us. On board is of course life jackets, first aid kit and communication equipment.
We will take max. 20 guests on board to make this a comfortable and safe experience for all our guests. If you prefer a more private experience with family or friends, maybe combined with lunch or dinner on board, we can organize it. If you got a dream of sailing to or from the mainland on a traditionally dhow, or maybe to continue your trip to Pemba island, north of Zanzibar, we can organize that as well.
